Film: "How Green was My Valley"

Paper Summary:

This paper analyzes Darryl Zanuck's film "How Green was My Valley", based on the novel of the same name by Richard Llewelly. "The local colliery employs all the men in the town and pays the hardworking men a fair wage. Then the market for coal weakens and the wages of the workers are all reduced. The men believe it is because another colliery from a neighboring town closed and those workers are now willing to do the same job for much much less. There are now three workers for every one job. The men strike. Huw's father is against the strike but his brothers and most of the other town men are strong supporters. The family is divided and the four remaining older brothers move out."
