This paper discusses the history of Zoroastrianism. The paper explains that Zoroastrianism was founded by Zarathushtra, who is known in Greece as Zoroaster and in India and Persia as Zarthost. The paper also explains that it is believed that Zarathushtra began the religion of Zoroastrianism in 6000 BC, although the exact date has not been determined. Additionally, the paper tells us that what was initially unique about the religion of Zoroastrianism was that it was monotheistic while most within society practiced polytheistic beliefs. This was not easily accepted throughout the social order until the Persian king began to support the teachings of Zarathushtra, making Zoroastrianism that new state religion. The paper also notes that the state focus on Zoroastrianism lasted until the 7th century CE, when Persia experienced a Muslim invasion. Many of the followers of the Zoroastrianism faith left Persia for India, beginning a new focus on the religion in that nation.
