900 words (approx. 3.6 pages) | 6 sources | 2006 United States

Paper Summary:

This paper examines three instructional methods which appear to aid students with their writing skills, as well as with their general language acquisition skills. The paper explores what each method is (briefly) and cites the literature which argues that these approaches are beneficial to young learners. As an addendum, the paper also contains an annotated bibliography at its end which adumbrates some of the salient points raised in each article while contextualizing points raised in the paper.

From the Paper:

"The following paper is a follow-up to an earlier study which examined the literature as it pertained to writing problems among Middle School students. In particular, this paper examines three instructional strategies - jigsaw strategy, peer practice/reciprocal strategies and the "metaphor" strategy - and outlines what they are, why they are effective for developing the writing problems of Middle School students and how the writer came across them in the course of his research. Without further ado then, it is to the aforementioned multi-faceted task that this paper now turns. As noted above, jigsaw strategy is something that strong teachers can employ with a measure of success in the middle school classroom."
