From the Paper:
"For as long as there have been schools, there have been students that require special attention. At one time, these students were considered "slow" or "difficult." Such children might also have been considered evil or possessed. Today we recognize physical and mental challenges for what they are. Attention deficit disorder (with or without hyperactivity), autism, learning disabilities, physical disabilities and giftedness are no longer attributed to supernatural origins, or to lack of cooperation or misbehavior on the part of the student. And, now that these conditions have been recognized, teachers and counselors have been given guidelines on how to work with these students. This paper will briefly describe some of these different special needs possessed by students. In addition, it will briefly discuss the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Individual Education Plans (IEP), as well as the No Child Left Behind Act."
