In this paper the author explores the role played by women in the American revolution. The paper tries to highlight the importance of women in every war no matter what they contribute, from sewing to fighting to home guard.The author concludes that with the American independence also came the independence for women.

"In addition to these women, there were several female soldiers who also served as spies. The most remarkable of the bunch was Lydia Darragh of Philadelphia. By tricking the British soldiers who were conferencing in her home that she was asleep, she learned that the soldiers were planning to surprise Washington's army at Whitemarsh. In response, she proceeded the next day to Frankford, pretending the need to fill her flour sack at a flourmill there."
