A Perspective from Social Psychology
In an attempt to discover to what extent militarization is a gendered process, we must examine several theories and principles from the field of social psychology. We intend to explore reasons for persistent negative beliefs about women in the military and to propose a program based in social psychology theory to correct continuing discrimination against military women.

In many societies soldiering and manhood are so completely merged that they become indistinguishable (Elshtain & Tobias, 1990, p. 203). Military bases, particularly those abroad, are packages of assumptions about the needs of the military men. It seems that there is a construction of militarized masculinity.."
