This paper addresses the importance of the American woman's role in World War II. The image of the "little woman" took a direct hit in World War II. Whether braving the bombs and rationing on the home front, or serving as nurses, pilots, Congresswomen, auxiliary personnel or myriad other positions, women were vital to the war effort in ways they had never been before.
