This paper discusses the philosophical and historical background of Asia, outlining how the primary belief or theme of Asia in past years influenced the 20th century history.
This paper explores the cultural struggle which exists in Asia as it moves back and forth towards the western culture. Many years ago the Asian nations felt the way to beat the western world was to become like the western world. They assimilated and did exactly that. In more recent years however there have been movements to return to some of the old traditions.
From the Paper:
"Throughout history, various cultures around the world have developed their own customs and traditions to fit their beliefs. Many times, the cultures develop their own identity with a combination of borrowed traditions and new ones. The Asian culture has changed tremendously over its many centuries of existence. It has been through phases of spiritual changes as well as political changes. During the 19th century, however, Asia experienced a bit of an identity crisis and the way it manifested itself was in the cultural desire to Americanize. Asia spent a good part of that century trying hard to become more western and that ideal shaped the way the 20th century unfolded as well."
