"In response to parental and community concern about the developmental effects on children who play with toys that portray antisocial, violent, or militaristic themes, two governmental committees in Australia were set up to investigate the issue. Psychologists have argued that playing with such toys may increase antisocial and aggressive behavior in children and have long-term effects on children's development of attitudes toward other and toward society in general (Jenvey, 1988, p. 1-3). However, a review of the research on children's play shows that there is little evidence to support such arguments.Reasons for lack of research have to do with the problem of establishing a criteria for defining "antisocial," "violent," and "war toys."
