Virtual Private Networks (VPN)
An examination of VPNs and their use today.
1,973 words (approx. 7.9 pages) | 8 sources | APA | 2004 United States

Paper Summary:

This paper provides an overview of computer networks, in general, and VPNs, in particular, followed by an examination of how VPNs work and what advantages and benefits they provide companies today. A summary of the research is provided in the conclusion. Scholarly sources and a colorful graphic illustration are used.

From the Paper:

"Today, more than ever, having the ability to access important data remotely and to communicate is crucial. Businesses competing in the modern and increasingly globalized marketplace must focus the abilities on gaining access to information quickly, securely, and reliably. This new business model has been termed the "virtual office" by some, and provides employers with the opportunity to retain valuable employees by offering them the ability to work from home, gives remote office employees the same services as the employees at a main location, and enables field representatives to connect effectively to the organization's local area network (LAN) from virtually anywhere in the world (Thomas, 2002)."
