In fact, urinary incontinence is often the reason that family members have the elderly relative institutionalized (RNAO, 2002). With a rapidly aging population, the problem is becoming more prevalent than ever (Stotts & Deitrich, 2004). The prevalence of urinary incontinence increases with age, and is costly for the elderly in terms of finances, self-esteem, and self-worth."
