Introduction
This research examines the political relations between the United States and Vietnam for the inclusive period 1990-1996. The relations between the United States and Vietnam during the 1990s do not exist within a contemporary vacuum. Rather, these relations remain to some extent a manifestation of the Vietnam War and the aftermath of that war from 1975 through the end of the 1980s. For this reason, it is necessary to allude to this earlier relationship between the two countries when reviewing their contemporary relationship.
