The tuition refund industry is largely dominated by silent partners that work directly with educational institutions of all kinds. While useful, these tuition refund programs are often in small print and not heavily advertised to students and parents who often forego purchasing it out of ignorance about its existence. This paper discusses the tuition refund industry and how failure to purchase tuition refund insurance can result in substantial monetary losses through the course of an undergraduate or graduate education.

"The educational establishment objects to such plans for several reasons, some valid, some not, that create a problematic competitive environment for JTJ Insurance. One of the more valid reasons that educational institutions object to such programs is that they fear that such a policy that ensures a full tuition refund to students will create an "easy out" for some students that might otherwise choose to stay in their courses and work through their difficulties (Crossling). One of the not so valid competitive reasons for the educational establishment's resistance is that they perceive such independent operators as a threat to their revenue stream."
