Yet, the theory of tolerance had a much greater scope of importance because its concepts were ultimately related to the whole of society. Tolerance, for the most part, meant accepting different people with different points of view that were not part of the mainstream society. In the time of Locke and Bayle mainstream thought was based on Christian beliefs."
