Newman later synthesized various concepts and theories such as Hegel's dialectical fusion of opposites, Young's theory of human evolution, and Bentov's theory that time is a measure of consciousness (Marriner-Tomey & Alligood, 1989). The practical application of the theory as pattern recognition was tested by Newman as she cared for her mother who was struggling with a chronic illness."
