"The Ultimate Resource, by Julian Simon, suggests that contrary to popular opinion, large increases in population are not negative. In fact, the contribution by increased members of society actually benefits communities. This paper addresses the main points addressed in the book and presents an analysis and evaluation of Mr. Simon's arguments.


The book is divided into three parts and 23 chapters. The first part, "Toward Our Beautiful Resource Future," addresses managing natural resources. Simon suggests that the costs of raw materials have fallen sharply during recorded history. He suggests that this trend is likely to continue into the future and even puts up $10,000 as a direct challenge to those who disagree with him (27).
