Paper Summary:

This paper describes the factors that led to the Great Depression in the U.S. after WWI. The paper explains how WWI contributed to the worldwide economic downturn and that the poor economic conditions that existed throughout the world after WWI, combined with the already existing problems in the U.S. of unequal distribution of wealth and extensive stock market speculation, led to the economic decline of the U.S. and, ultimately, the Great Depression.

From the Paper:

"Economic changes often occur over long periods of time. These changes are caused by many factors including, but not limited to, resources, population, and technology. There are, on the other hand, many changes that occur quite rapidly and many times almost unexpectedly. These include natural disasters, political changes, and even wars. These changes can occur in a matter of days or weeks. It is these sudden changes that leave the crippling of economies in their wake. Such was the case with the world economy after the tragic events of World War I. The fragile balance which had existed was abruptly broken and dismantled within the four years of World War I. The repercussions of the war as well as various economic mistakes and pitfalls throughout the world would eventually lead the United States and the rest of the world into the greatest economic downfall ever experienced."
