The Torah People

Paper Summary:

This paper contends that the Torah is the doctrine of the Jewish people as handed down by Moses and that the purpose of the Torah was to set the Jewish people a doctrine of life based purely on reason and intellect. It looks at how Judaism requires the study of the holy scriptures and the application of these doctrines using reason as a guide and how the Torah is not a list of rules and commandments, rather a guide to reason and understanding.

"However, as in all doctrines or religious philosophies, some dogmas still exist in Judaism. Claiming the great scriptures are teaching tools, is a valid argument, but other religions make similar claims. Christianity and Islam, use their scriptures as a means for a higher learning, but still claim to be religions, therefore in their case Cahn, has a valid argument. However, Hinduism claims to not be a religion, but a way of life based on various teachings. They also desire knowledge and wisdom over all worldly possessions. Like Judaism, Hinduism is a way of life, a Dharma. Contrary to popular perception, it is not a religion: It does not have any one founder, and it does not have a Bible or a Koran to which controversies can be referred for resolution."
