The Teleological Argument
An understanding of the teleological argument's explanation of why evil must and does exist.
1,740 words (approx. 7 pages) | 4 sources | MLA | 2006 United States

Paper Summary:

This paper attempts to understand the teleological argument by looking at the cultural shortcomings of the teleological argument's greatest critic, David Hume and an insight into its greatest purveyor, William Paley. It dissects the intersection of man and politic and church and culture as well as examining the freshman philosophy test of 'the tree'. It finally attempts to prove that the empiricism does indeed exist within science to validate both a god and the necessities of evil.

From the Paper:

"Equally convinced are chaos/stochastic mathematicians, when given evidence that anomalies cascade into pattern and back into randomness, giving rise to the possibility that a butterfly's changed course may indeed affect the weather. That even apparent randomness (disorder!) is order. The notion given there is not only that there is enough order to prove a plan is afoot, but that, just as the butterfly, everyone and everything has INDEED a purpose if not simply an effect, greater than themselves. THAT if nothing else is evidence of a higher power. Is that presence itself the higher power? Is Hume on a bit of the right trail with his relativist empiricism insomuch as the 'individual' quality of the equation? What if the view of a GOD as 'all powerful' is the wrong step in the formula?"
