"Human beings are primates, and researchers study other living primates as a way of learning more about human behavior. Naturalists seek to observe animals in their natural habitat to learn about the adaptive capabilities of different creatures. Primatologists observe the behavior of primates to see both how these animals adapt and to derive some idea of how the human being adapts as well. Modern apes and human beings are now far apart in terms of evolution, and they last shared a common ancestor some five million years ago.
