Therefore, he sent a comforter. This comforter that Jesus promised was the Holy Spirit. It is important to look at the Hebrew and Greek word for spirit to understand the important role that the Holy Spirit played in the lives of the disciples and continues to play in the believers' lives. Jesus knew that believers needed help living in a wicked world. He promised the disciples a comforter to guide and direct them in living a Christian life. This promise can be found in John 14: 16-18, "And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with your forever"."
