"Many theists believe in the existence of an all-good and all-powerful God. Indeed, such a belief is at the very core of many religions, including Christianity. However, we also live in a world where evil exists. How can there be evil, when an all-good and all-powerful God exists? This has posed a serious problem for many theologians and philosophers. Philosophers and theologians of the stature of St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Augustine, David Hume, John Stuart Mill, and Bertrand Russell have grappled with this problem (Harris, 1977). "
