↶ Look Inside

Paper Summary:

This paper examines the European Union's growing powers in the areas of economics, law and politics, energy, environmental issues, travel, education, security, technology, communications, relationships with non-member states (including aid to other countries), and future governance.

From the paper:

"The EU continues to address and legislate in the area of energy as well. Euratom was included in the Treaties of Rome in 1956-7. The energy crisis of the 70s was a specific challenge to the Community, and an energy commission was established in 1975. Atomic energy has always been a hot topic among the EU leaders, and the European Energy Charter of the early 90s was significant (Europa, 2001). In 1996, strategies for renewable energy sources were discussed."
