"It is the new tower of Babel the European Union headquarters in Brussels, Belgium. Here, fifteen different countries speaking with different cultures, history and language, interests, with many more about to join, are trying to work together. One wonders if this creation called the EU can really survive through the barriers and emerge as an legitimate, efficient power in the world stage, while maintaining true to the ideals of democracy. Nationalist sentiments are strong, conflicting interests and intrigue between the numerous countries plague the Union, fears of loss of national sovereignty and questions about the fairness and democracy of the system are raised by many smaller countries. Not all hope is lost for the EU. However, it must realize that there is a limit to its size and diversity if it wishes to be legitimate and efficient; the EU cannot include everyone. Also, as the representatives build the new constitution for the EU, hopefully, they will do so with the correct vision a supra-national state based on democracy that divides the power so that national sovereignty is maintained within the collective organism."
