This paper is a profile of several cultures, including the Egyptians, the Greeks, and the Vikings, and how their environment had an impact on their culture. From the Egyptians seeing floods as a blessing to the Greeks having military and topographic advantages, these people were shaped by what was around them
From the Paper:
"The first civilizations, although in vastly different parts of the world, shared onecommon thread, which was that they flourished in river valleys. Civilization was dependent on a sedentary lifestyle; in order to truly develop a culture, people needed to forsake their nomadic lifestyles. It was this event that brought about the agricultural revolution, in which people made use of the rivers in order to grow food. It was from these flowing bodies of water that their cultural identity was forged. One famous example was the ancient Egyptian culture and their relation with the Nile River."
