The paper studies the black rhino, from its historic background to its habitat, outlining the reasons why the rhino is in danger of extinction. The writer finds that only the complete cessation of poaching and the incursion of human communities can put off the endangerment of the black rhino. According to the writer, if the black rhino remains in the wild, it may not survive.
From the Paper:
"Poaching for horn is largely responsible for this massive decline. The southern African countries of Namibia, Zimbabwe and South Africa, where 90% of Africa's remaining Black rhinos and white rhinos are conserved, are coming under increasing pressure. These animals provide the only means of satisfying the illegal trade in Rhino horn, which now appears to be driven by stockpiling for investment purposes in addition to the traditional demands of eastern medicine and Yemeni dagger handles(Tansey, B. Burnett, D., Straw , M., 1998)."
