The paper explains that the assertion that the 20th century was an American century can be substantiated through a variety of reasons. This paper will make the case that two key factors supported this assertion: The economic power of the United States during the century and perhaps more importantly, the ways in which the United States structured the institutions that run the global economy in such a way as to support the economic power, ideology and commercial values of the United States.
