This paper discusses the texts of St. Augustine's "Confessions" and John Milton's "Paradise Lost" in an exploration of God's omnipotence over Heaven, Hell and earth. It discusses various sections of both texts and adds research articles to support the theory that Milton did not allow for God's omnipotence in his writings. This thesis is explored by comparing it to that of St. Augustine.

"John Milton's Paradise Lost focuses on the characters of evil and good and their struggles in three different worlds to have a relationship to God. These relationships were not always those that were positive in nature, yet, they were forged in the events that led to the creation of the levels of God's omnipotence in Heaven, Hell, and earth. This paper will show that Milton was negligent in providing evidence of God's omnipotence throughout his story, and that in fact, he demonstrates that there is a mutation between God, and God's power in each of the levels of his universe. With examples from Saint Augustine's Confessions, and relative research, this thesis will be explored. Milton constructed his original ten books of Paradise Lost with the intention of explaining the evil in the world ("Columbia" 31730)."
