This paper looks at the field of telemedicine. The writer outlines the benefits including its uses for diagnosis, for guiding surgeons at remote locations through unfamiliar procedures, for consultations between doctors and for monitoring patients while they are at home. This paper explores the uses of telemedicine and its role in the future of health care. It is hypothesized that telemedicine will be the health care of the future.
From the Paper:
"A global trend to reduce medical care costs is to return all referral patients to their primary clinic after surgery, and in the case of some ophthalmological problems, postoperative complications often occur because most clinics do not have extensive experience in treating complex cases. Remote examination and diagnosis of patients regardless of their location allows prevention and early diagnosis of complications and has been applied to lessen postoperative complications in patients with Stevens-Johnson syndrome and ocular cicatricial pemphigoid."
