This affected the European powers, and especially, those with empires overseas, the United States, and everywhere that these forces went. By the 1840s, advances in Chemistry and Physics were being applied to the battlefield and with results that were to prove far greater than intended when, for example, creating a better explosive, or a gun that took less time to load."
