Technology and Psychology

Paper Summary:

The paper presents evidence that psychologists, students and faculty of psychology schools/programs and practitioners are all benefiting from the use of computers and the internet in their various pursuits. The paper relates that in terms of testing, computers have been useful in diagnosing ADD and for research, the internet and computers have proven to be of incalculable value. The paper adds that in terms of instruction and learning, the internet and computers have been demonstrated to be an integral part of the learning process.

"Technology has a significant place in the modern practice of psychology. While it is not generally used during the actual sessions between doctor and patient, it plays a significant part in the development of psychologists and their instruction in school, it is an integral part in the management of the psychologist's office and is absolutely essential to psychological research. In terms of practice, psychology can live without technology in that it is primarily a verbal exchange and an analytical process that only a human mind can facilitate. But, in terms of education, research, and office management, the computer and the internet are absolutely essential. It is the purpose of this paper to examine the manner by which psychology is dependent upon these technologies and the ways in which they impact the practice. All psychologists begin their education within the confines of a university program."
