Technological Determinism

The paper discusses technology and society and examines the topic of technological determinism. The assignment itself involved reading three readings and then writing an essay that described, compared and contrasted the readings. The paper discusses how the essential argument was that technology was having a major effect on society.

"Technological determinism seems to be a major issue in modern western society. Everywhere you go new technologies are being used and news reports are always doing stories on the effects of a particular technology on a particular aspect of life. The question that needs to be asked is how have these technologies effected our lives? And what will be the long term effects? In order to look at these issues, three readings will be examined. These readings are "The Idea of an Information Society" by Frank Webster, "Artifacts/Ideas and Political Culture" by Langdon Winner and "Time, Space, and the Telegraph" by James Carey."
