Suggested IEP for Canadian Student

Paper Summary:

This paper presents a case study of a new Canadian student diagnosed as having a learning disability that involves her speech, concentration and ability in mathematics. The student is profiled and an IEP devised with reference to related studies and Ontario curriculum information towards a two-year plan involving both the school and family. "Mariam Rajah (b. 1997) is a well-adjusted and cheerful student who expresses herself in full sentences and participates in class discussions. There has been a delay in identifying Mariam as an exceptional learner, as early troubles in moderating her speech were attributed to new language acquisition. In time, it was learned that Mariam is from an English-speaking household. She has the advantage of a family who are most encouraging, consistent, and who offer careful instructions with regard to behaviour, good manners, and a strong emphasis on education as important. Mariam's likely status as an exceptional student was assessed at the conclusion of Grade 2."
