The use of portfolios during the assessment process can be of benefit to both student and teacher alike. Portfolios can be used to centralize student work products, allowing the teacher to better evaluate the student's progress over the semester, the year, or even over the student's educational career. In addition, because each student portfolio contains similar work, it is relatively easy to assess if individual students, or if the entire class, achieve certain benchmarks during the portfolio period. This paper examines the process of organizing student portfolios and setting goals and benchmarks for these portfolios.
