2,250 words (approx. 9 pages) | 10 sources | 2005 United States

Paper Summary:

This paper explains the ideology to show what should be done with Stelco. The author points out the second pro and con arguments regarding the takeover in terms of foreign ownership and free trade. The paper describes the interest group most affected.

From the Paper:

"Stelco is an insolvent Canadian steel maker, and was the subject of bidding in 2004 by a total of seven parties which announced interest in purchasing either part or all of the company. Although the board of directors is involved, the final outcome "will be decided by an Ontario Superior Court judge who "will have the final word on the wining bid" (CBC 2). The decision is complex since it involves the benefits from increased competitiveness versus all the multiple disadvantages of foreign control. The role of the state in this takeover has to be determined through the most appropriate of changing and even contradictory ideology."
