This paper discusses how successful work environments function when not only the obligations of the workplace to clients and partners are achieved, but also the employees within the work environment identify their work experiences as positive in nature. The paper further discusses literature on workplace performance that indicates that the employee who is emotionally challenged and is a valued member of the organization is more likely to have higher performance returns, but these challenges and rewards are frequently difficult to quantify. This paper explores these issues in respect to strategies that are used by the Starbucks Corporation concerning profit-sharing and other strategies designed to motivate the worker.
