Stalking
An analysis of stalking in today's society.
1,514 words (approx. 6.1 pages) | 4 sources | MLA | 2005

Paper Summary:

Stalking is a crime that terrorizes an astounding average of 1,006,970 women and 370,990 men in an entire year. This paper explains that, with year after year of analysis, researchers have been able to categorize stalkers into three primary categories in order to gain some sort of understanding about how stalkers work. As a result of this research, society can now focus on how to help the stalking victims through individual community efforts. It also explains that, with the assistance of federal and state laws regarding stalking, the victim now has more power than ever before in gaining the upper hand in the crime of stalking.

From the Paper:

"However, a victim can learn about stalking prevention from victim assistance programs and support groups that are available in their area. The victim assistance program provides the victim with guidelines to follow on how to prevent or deal with stalkers. These programs can inform the victim on how to make reports to local authorities, how to protect one's privacy, and how to protect oneself physically. On the other hand, support groups can give the victim the opportunity to meet other individuals who have been through the same experiences. Support groups can also give the victim motivation to overcome the mental obstacles the stalker had originally instilled in the victim. It is important for victims to take part in these programs since: "...studies show that the overwhelming number of stalkers are men and the overwhelming number of their victims are women" ("Stalkers"). These two outlets, when utilized together, will successfully give the victim the supplemental information that is needed to successfully deal with the criminal act of stalking."
