From the Paper:
"In those of us with healthy, intact brains, information presented to one hemisphere is quickly sent to the other hemisphere via the corpus callosum, the "superhighway" of neurons connecting the halves of the brain. What happens when the right and left hemispheres of the brain can no longer communicate? This is exactly what a split-brain patient experiences. If a person were to talk with one of these patients, they would probably not notice anything unusual. The patient appears completely mentally and physically intact and unchanged when observed by family and friends. If there are no other brain illnesses present, then cognitive functions are usually within their normal range. It is only when specific tests are administered do the symptoms of disconnection emerge."
