Includes information about four well-known troubadours, and a formal analysis of five of their pieces. Gives brief history of the troubadours, general description of their music and an in depth formal analysis of their pieces.
From the Paper:
"Nearly a thousand years ago, the troubadours arose as main instigators of a new form of music. The troubadours were aristocratic poet-musicians who lived in Southern France from 1100 to 1300. Their poetry and music of chivalry represents the first substantial musical development originating from a secular level of society. All preserved troubadour music is monophonic (single melodic line); and was written in their southern language called langue d?oc."
