The explanations as to the causes of inequalities in health are difficult to explain. A combination of factors; including peoples living and working conditions, their economic and personal histories, their social relationships and lifestyles all contribute. Much health related behavior is socially determined. The cumulative effect over a lifetime, of health damaging or health promoting physical and social environments may be the main cause of the differences."
