California is experiencing a greater growth that it ever has, as compared to 1995 when it was the fastest-shrinking area in the nation. "Fueled by immigration, young migrants from other states, and new jobs in a reinvented regional economy, [Los Angeles County) has roared back to become the fastest-growing US county" (Wood, 2000, 2). The same situation holds true throughout most of the state.
