# 62849
Slavery in the New World
An analysis of slavery in three areas of the New World, the New England, Middle and Southern colonies.
900 words (approx. 3.6 pages) | 1 source | MLA | 2004

Paper Summary:

This paper contends that slavery either directly or indirectly tied into all three colonial areas in the New World. The paper explains how the Southern colonies produced the goods because of the extensive labor force, the New England colonies shipped the goods produced in the south and the Middle colonies provided the financial means to the New England colonies so the goods could be shipped. The paper claims that each group was important in the economic development of the New World and each group was only made possible by labor of slaves.

From the Paper:

"In the New World, three areas of development occurred in which settlers came and colonies began to flourish, and slavery eventually became a common practice. These three areas were the New England, Middle and Southern colonies. The New England colonies consisted of Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New Hampshire, Maine. Pennsylvania, Delaware, New York and New Jersey constituted the Middle colonies. The Southern colonies included Virginia, the Carolinas, Georgia and Maryland. In 1619, the first Africans came to settle in America at Jamestown. From the time these first slaves arrived till the start of the American Revolution in 1776, the number of slaves gradually increased as slavery became more and more widespread across the colonies."
