"Sigmund Freud was born in 1856 in Freiberg, a small part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. As a child he heard nothing of science, let alone modern psychology, and none of his ancestors had ever attended a university (Hunt, 1993). By all odds, he should have become a small time merchant like his father, Jacob.
