↶ Look Inside

Paper Summary:

Sexual interaction, initiation, and negotiation are influenced by a large range of sociological factors. This paper explains how men and women have historically demonstrated different social behaviors related to sexual interaction and negotiation. However, not surprisingly, the tactics men and women utilize to initiate and engage in sexual coupling are very similar. It also explains that science has shown that familiarity breeds increased desire and activity. A definitive process does exist that outlines the pattern men and women typically engage in when coupling. It concludes that social scripts may influence outward sexual behaviors, and behavior patterns can be established and analyzed based on an individual's tendency to follow such scripts.

From the Paper:

"There is much research that has demonstrated that women are in fact, very willing to initiate sex and many desire sex as much as men do (O'Sullivan, Lawrence & Byers, 1993 from Clements-Schreiber, et. al, 1998: 197). Men do often initiate sex more frequently than women to, or at least have admitted to initiating sex more frequently than women, however this fact does not reveal the true desire of men or women to actually engage in or negotiate sexual activity with a partner. This is demonstrated by the fact that men and women reportedly experience the same instances of reluctance by the other partner or gender to engage in sexual activity after initiation (Clements-Schreiber, et. al, 1998: 197)."
