"In helping others, human beings are required to extend themselves in an emotional way to provide support to those in need. In the case of a middle child, it is necessary for individuals to provide encouragement to overcome feelings of inadequacy and inferiority. It is expected that in order to provide support for the middle child, Adlerian theory is applicable and the home environment is critical to the understanding of the support system (Ward, 2003). Adler supported the belief that home and family serves as a primary influence in personal growth, as the way in which parents and siblings provide support to the middle child is very significant in the development and maturity of the child in his or her later years (Ward, 2003)."
