Tragically, mainstream society has not only rejected Native American cultural values, it has rejected Native Americans themselves, for their social and cultural traditions are incompatible with prevailing Western materialistic values and attitudes. This has had unfortunate consequences, for such conduct is not only racist, it is environmentally irresponsible. Historically, North American society is a reflection of the traditional value system of northern European immigrants, a value system that is characterized by a strong belief in Anglo-Saxon political ideologies, economic competition and rugged individualism."
