The discovery of new inventions such as printing and gunpowder and compasses. But most of all it was the discovery of our classical heritage. One of the greatest areas of this influence was in the world of art. Art became a branch of knowledge that was valuable in its own right. Through art, man could create images which helped us understand our position in the universe. This was a discovery of human spirit that brought new confidence in man's possibilities and creations.
