This paper looks at the art of Reiki, a form of energy healing, which uses this universal energy to "recharge" and heal the inner person. It provides a general overview, discusses conventional medicines opinion of it together with some clinical trial information, various statistics and some of the history of Reiki healing. It also looks at different viewpoints, including the placebo effect to evaluate Reiki healing and its potential for treating stress.

"Jones (1998) and Rowlands (1997) both discuss how research in Devon since 1992 into the benefits of healing show very positive results. She states that a healer visited a surgery on morning per week and saw an average of five patients, each for forty-five minutes at a time. All of the patients were ones who had suffered with chronic conditions for at least six months and had not had successful treatments of any kind. The conditions included Arthritis, depression, headaches, psoriasis, ME, abdominal pain, etc. After six months, the patients were assessed and asked for feedback on their symptoms both before and after the long period of healing. It was found that 72% had improved symptoms and 32% of these showed substantial improvements. Furthermore, she adds that healing proved to be cheaper and more effective than counselling, and was also beneficial financially."
