This paper analyzes the role of regional integration in promoting global business throughout North America. It explains that geographical proximity has been an important factor in the successful establishment of regional trading blocs such as NAFTA. "In analyzing the role of regional integration in promoting global business throughout North America, it is evident that geographical proximity has been an important factor in the successful establishment of regional trading blocs such as NAFTA. As one might expect, the members of the North American Free Trade Association have studied the European Union experience in order to evaluate the successes and failures of the EU in terms of regional integration and global business, and to craft their own approaches to promoting regional integration and global business in North America. Implementation of the North American Free Trade Agreement began on January 1, 1994. NAFTA has or will remove most barriers to trade and investment among the United States, Canada, and Mexico by 2008."
