Racism in American Society
A look at factors contributing to the current American social and economic structure.
1,365 words (approx. 5.5 pages) | 4 sources | MLA | 2002 United States

Paper Summary:

This paper examines whether racism has defined the layout of city structures or if this is in itself is a cause of racism. It explores whether racism has contributed to urban sprawl, the destruction of the environment, and even the structure of the transportation systems.

From the Paper:

"Racism has shaped the current social and economic structure of America. Defined as a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race (www.Webster.com), racism is a continuing problem the American society is still facing. "There's nothing fundamentally wrong with people" But Given a story to enact in which they are the lords of the world, they will act like lords of the world (Quinn 84)." Although much progress has been made, there is still much to be achieved. This past and continued discrimination, perceived superiority, and fear has taken and continues to take a toll on our economic and social growth."
